Sustainable practices (small steps, big difference)
Our tourist unit, in order to contribute both to the protection of the environment, the most important tourist resource, and to the saving of energy and other resources, has adapted and adopted the following sustainability practices:
Energy efficiency and energy saving management
Our tourist unit, regarding the effective management of energy efficiency and energy saving, has taken the following actions:
- The accommodation’s lighting is provided by very low energy consumption LED lamps.
- The insulation of the accommodation’s shell is highly energy efficient.
- The accommodation’s frames and glazing are highly energy efficient.
- The accommodation’s hot water comes from a highly energy efficient solar water heater.
- The air conditioners (heating / cooling) and other electrical appliances are highly energy efficient and low energy consumption.
- A parking lot lighting control device has been installed to effectively control the lighting hours of the space.
- The accommodation has been designed from the ground up to provide ample natural ventilation and lighting of the interior space, in order to minimize energy consumption for lighting and heating/cooling.
Water resource management
Our tourist unit has taken the following actions regarding the effective management of water resources:
- Installation of low-flow water saving devices in the bathroom and kitchen.
- Planting plants and shrubs in the garden surrounding the accommodations that require minimal water for watering in the summer.
- Installation and use of a large-capacity, very energy-efficient and very low-water consumption washing machine for washing bed linen and towels.
- Very frequent inspection of all the unit’s water supply systems in order to promptly detect any water leaks.
Waste Management
Our tourist unit has taken the following actions regarding effective waste management:
- Collection of waste from paper, aluminium, iron, and plastic and disposal in relevant recycling bins.
- The organic waste (breakfast leftovers, food, etc.) of the accommodation along with the fallen leaves from the olive trees are converted into compost / fertilizer for the olive trees (mainly the younger ones).
Biodiversity and ecosystem protection
The accommodation is built within a centuries-old olive grove and takes all appropriate actions to preserve and develop it.
Development of the local community
Our tourist unit, wanting to contribute to the stimulation and development of the local economy, supports local businesses and crafts and integrates the use of their products and services into the experience of its visitors.
Preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the place
Our tourist unit has created – developed a detailed brochure to inform its visitors about the preservation of the cultural heritage of the place, which includes the history of the place and suggestions for gastronomic experiences, for visits to archaeological sites and for visits to areas of particular natural beauty and historical – cultural importance.
Informing visitors about the unit’s sustainability practices
Our tourist unit has created a detailed brochure to inform its visitors about energy efficiency / energy saving management, water resources management and waste management.
Continuous improvement of sustainability practices
Sustainability and its practices are a continuous journey of improvement, not a destination. Setting clear measurable goals and monitoring progress towards achieving them ensures continuous improvement. Regular sustainability audits are conducted to identify areas for further improvement and innovation.
